Reason #1: Because Satan wants to hurt you, not so much just to hurt you, but as a means of hurting God. Hurting you is a side benefit to Satan. He wants to destroy your marriage because he wants to hurt God. He knows that he cannot defeat God. But he knows that he can grieve the heart of God when he hurts God’s children where they will hurt the most—in their marriage.

Reason #2: Because Satan knows that if he can ruin a marriage, he can stop God’s power. When he ruins a marriage, Satan has diffused God’s plan for power—the power of agreement. According to Deuteronomy 32:30, there is incredible spiritual authority over the demonic realm when a husband and wife are standing together in agreement. The Bible says that “one could chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight.” Two people walking in agreement have ten times the spiritual authority as a single individual.

Reason #3: The third reason that Satan and the kingdom of darkness attack the marriage is to deny the development of a righteous generation. Children of divorce go through pressures and stress that God never intended for a child to go through. Malachi chapter two says that God hates divorce because He seeks Godly offspring. Satan knows that it is hard for a child to believe in an invisible, unconditionally loving father if they haven’t had a visible loving father. Often they even blame God for their circumstances.
