Introduction

Covenant Marriage MovementThe Covenant Marriage Movement is not an organization, but rather an organism of cooperating ministries dedicated to strengthening the institution of marriage. This movement, comprised of leading ministries from many different denominations, is breaking down walls and building bridges so that the notion of a divorce culture is overtaken by a people believing in the sanctity and permanence of marriage.

God has instilled in the hearts of couples from every walk of life the need to affirm His intent for their marriage. In signing the covenant, couples will be joining thousands of other couples across the nation and around the world in affirming the importance of a covenant marriage relationship. But for you and your spouse, it will be committing yourselves to each other to remain steadfast in the unconditional love God expects of you and provides for you.

For those of you who are preparing for marriage, this statement can become your vow to God, each other, your families, and your community as you promise to remain steadfast in your unconditional love for each other.

Not only has God been raising the awareness of the need, He is now providing a way for couples to stand together to affirm their commitment to covenant marriage through the Covenant Marriage Movement.

What Is It?

Covenant Marriage MovementThis is a movement of God to initiate revival within the lives of couples and families in this nation and around the world.

This is a movement of God among religious leaders, politicians, educators, clergy, counselors, and social scientists to affirm the importance of establishing and maintaining wholesome lifelong marriage relationships.

This is a movement of God to provide an avenue through which His people can boldly stand alongside thousands of other couples to affirm God's design for marriage as a covenant relationship.

Over the past few years God has been raising up religious leaders, politicians, educators, counselors, statisticians, social scientists, and others to affirm the importance of establishing and maintaining wholesome marriage relationships.

On February 23, 1999, a meeting was held in Dallas, Texas to introduce the Covenant Marriage Movement to representatives from 19 various church and para-church ministries and organizations. At that meeting all the representatives from these organizations unanimously agreed to encourage their respective ministry or organization to support the Covenant Marriage Movement.

On May 11, 1999, the representatives of the Movement announced the Covenant Marriage Movement through a press conference held in New York.

What Are We Asking?

Covenant Marriage MovementGod has already extended an invitation to over 30 cooperating organizations and ministries to join Him, and they have said, "Yes, Lord." We are now extending that same invitation to you. Will you say, "Yes, Lord" to the Covenant Marriage Movement?

We are asking you and your spouse to individually affirm the covenant statement found at the top of this page.

We are asking you as a couple to register your commitment with us at the Covenant Marriage Movement office. One of our goals is to report the number of couples in our nation and around the world who have taken a stand on behalf of Covenant Marriage.

We are asking you to take the necessary steps to strengthen your covenant relationship with your spouse or spouse-to-be. Seek assistance from your congregational leadership to discover the opportunities available to you to accomplish this goal.

We are asking you to encourage and support your congregational leaders as they set the pace in leading your congregation to become a Covenant Marriage congregation.

We are asking pastors to lead their people in becoming involved in the Covenant Marriage Movement by raising the standards for performing weddings and marriages in their congregation

We are asking you to offer ministries to couples in your congregation and community that will help insure the success of marriages.

We are asking each congregation to prayerfully consider becoming a Covenant Marriage congregation. These congregations will be asked to lift up and stand by God's standards for marriage as a covenant.

We are asking you to join others in your respective communities to offer a unified commitment to strengthen marriages and families by initiating community marriage policies or community marriage covenants.

We are asking denominations to make statements of affirmation to the activity of God in the lives of couples in our nation and the world. God has given us a unique opportunity to join Him in bringing revival to the couples and families in our nation. We will need to involve congregations from all Judeo-Christian faiths in order to accomplish this goal.
